ABOUT THE BOOK...

The following is a brief outline of the topics I cover in Happily Ever After... In Section 1 offer my readers a chance to experience what it would be like to attend one of my Interactive Self-Awareness/Relationship Work Shops. Plus I talk about my Epiphany and how it changed my life. Then I introduce you, my readers, to the “Outside-theBox” thought process that allows me to formulate and road-test techniques and to offer experience-based advice that often fly in the face of conventional, and for the most part ineffective, wisdom. In Section 2, “The Bio,” I offer a brief history of my wife’s and my high school experiences and our courtship and marriage. In Section 3, “About Happily Ever After,” I talk about my motivation for this book and I introduce my observations regarding “The Conflict of Instincts.” I maintain that the primitive drives, which cause men and women to think and behave so differently from each other, are the underlying cause for most of the problems in our relationships. I also introduce my conviction that if you hope to thrive as a human being, you need to negotiate prettymuch every facet of your relationship and of your life as well.

One of the most important things I’ve learned over the years is that the more we understand about what makes us tick, and for that matter what makes our mate tick, the better chance we stand of initiating and maintaining a rewarding relationship. In other words, we need to have some sort of system that helps us improve our selfawareness as well as our mate awareness. In order to address these needs, I’ve isolated three elements, which, for me, go a long way toward defining the human condition. They are: your Character Traits (Section 4), your Pleasure Quotient (Section 5), and your Masculine vs. Feminine Instincts (Section 6).

Section 4 The Who Am I Scale: The first scale I devised, when I began formulating this program, is designed to help you determine who you are as well as what you are. By analyzing to what degree you exhibit certain character traits and certain personal behaviors you can get an honest picture of the person you really, are and begin to develop a realistic sense of self-confidence.

Section 5 The P.Q. Scale: Then I developed the “Definitive P.Q. Scale” to help you determine your “Pleasure Quotient.” When you use this scale, you get a great idea of what really constitutes happiness for you. What’s more, this scale helps you make the all-important differentiation between the concepts of Contentment, Happiness, and Ecstasy.

Section 6 The MAS?FEM Scale: Finally, I devised what I call the “MAS/FEM Scale.” When you apply this scale to yourself, you can actually figure out to what degree your masculine instincts and/or to what degree your feminine instincts influence the way you behave and the way you think about almost everything.

Once we’ve had a chance to explore my three scales, we’ll move on to Section 7 where I’ll bring all of my acumen to bear in an attempt to deal with perhaps the most perplexing question to have confounded man since the dawn of cognition: “What is the meaning of life.” In Section 8, I’ll present my thoughts on the subject of denial as it applies to what I refer to as “Inadvertent Role-Playing Syndrome.” This demon singlehandedly nearly destroyed my marriage. Don’t get me wrong, role-playing -- the romantic type for instance -- can also be a good thing! In Section 9 of this workshop, I focus on how your instincts motivate your choice of a mate. In Section 10 I present my opinions as to whether or not compatibility is an essential component for a successful relationship. In Section 11 I invite you to perform a reality check as I introduce and discuss, what I refer to as, “The Emotional Baggage Claim.” In Section 12 I explain how to use “Quick Fixes” to improve your relationship. In Section 13 I explain how the “Beatitudes of Harmony,” the “Demons of Disharmony” and the “Saboteurs of Serenity” affect your relationship. In Section 14 I offer some of my insights and observations regarding relationships and life in general. And in Section 15 I’ve included a collection of some of my aphorisms. Hopefully you’ll find them amusing as well as enlightening.
